I don’t like to bitch about life when things get tough but sometimes one needs to express their frustrations lest they go supernova.

I’m not gonna lie, my life has been hard the last 6 months. Really hard. I’m talking the people dying/getting rejected for an application (for the fourth time)/losing money/legal dispute-kinda hard. Sure, all of that is life, I know, but it doesn’t mean I have to take it sitting down.

So I wrote a poem about how I feel.

As with griping about hardships, I also don’t like to dwell on negativity and loss. I pride myself on my incredible resilience, despite my (many) shortcomings, and thus the poem Resilience naturally came about from this. I hope you can find some strength in it, just as I did in writing it, and resist the forces that try so desperately to crush you.

Resilience

Holster your pistols and sheath your knives

The enemy fights with a spoon

Theirs is a war like a hole in the floor

Battle cries an off-coloured tune

Saccharine smiles on sky-kissed divides

One door with a gilded keyhole

Yet all else is bled by bashing one’s head

Just to keep all our masters’ moats full

Like a shrike to the heart and ever the swift

Eyes laugh as the waifs beat their hulls

But, mounted we’d shout, “What Heaven is this?”

A sickness in one spread to all

If you are among the billions unsung

And time is measured in meals

Then batter you skull on those metal walls

And become much stronger than steel
